🖥️ A Message for My Introduction to Computer Science Class

Some of you might be asking: What is this class really about? Can I learn to code? Will I be any good at it?
If you’ve never typed without looking or written a single line of code before, that’s okay.
This class is your starting point — and you’re exactly where you need to be.

Here are five things you can expect from me — and from yourself — in this class.

1. What is this class really about?

Intro to CS is about discovering how computers think — and how you can teach them to solve problems.
You’ll start by building essential habits like touch typing and learning core programming ideas: variables, loops, if-else logic.
You’ll create small, meaningful projects.
You’ll learn to think like a computer scientist — one step at a time.

2. What if I struggle or feel stuck?

That’s actually part of the plan.
Nobody writes perfect code the first time — not even professional programmers.
In this class, struggle isn’t a sign that you’re “not good at CS.”
It means you’re engaging with something real.
We’ll use every bug, crash, and confusion as a learning opportunity.
Mistakes are just part of the process.

3. What will we actually do in class?

You’ll type — a lot.
You’ll solve puzzles.
You’ll build programs from scratch.
We’ll use trial and error, test and debug, and reflect on what went wrong so we can get it right next time.
You’ll learn through doing — and each project helps you prepare for the next step, whether that’s AP CS or just becoming more confident with technology.

4. Why do we revise and revisit our work?

Because revising code is how real developers learn.
You’ll go back, fix errors, and improve your thinking.
If something doesn’t work, we don’t give up — we debug.
This habit of revisiting your logic, learning from feedback, and improving your solution is what will turn you into a real problem-solver.

5. What does success look like in this class?

Success isn’t about being the “fastest coder” or having the fewest bugs.
It’s about growing.
It’s about understanding how systems work, how to ask the right questions, and how to keep going when things break.
Whether or not you continue to AP CS, this class gives you a foundation in logical thinking, creativity, and resilience — skills that go far beyond coding.

🧠 I’ll be with you every step of the way — not to hand out answers, but to help you build your own thinking muscles.

If you’re putting in the effort, I will always support you.

Let’s explore, debug, and create together.
