One of the most frustrating technological problems I've ever faced happened a few years ago when I was at home trying to snag tickets to a Taylor Swift concert. I was doing it by myself, but thousands of other fans were trying to get tickets at exactly the same time, which was probably why the system was under so much pressure.
It was a huge deal for me because I'm a massive Taylor Swift fan. I was hoping to get a VIP package so I could sit relatively close to the stage and really experience the atmosphere up close.
The problem was that the moment ticket sales opened, the website basically collapsed under the traffic. The page kept freezing, sometimes it wouldn't load at all, and whenever I refreshed it, I either got an error message or ended up staring at the same blank screen. I couldn't even get into the booking system, let alone actually buy a ticket.
At first, I just kept refreshing, but that clearly wasn't getting me anywhere. So I did some basic troubleshooting. I opened the site in another browser and switched from Wi-Fi to my phone's mobile hotspot, just in case my connection was part of the problem.
After about five incredibly stressful minutes, the booking page finally loaded. I quickly chose the VIP package, entered my payment details, and paid by credit card. When the confirmation page appeared, I was absolutely thrilled and incredibly relieved.
Looking back, five minutes doesn't sound very long, but when thousands of people are competing for a limited number of tickets, it feels like forever. After all that frustration, actually snagging the tickets felt incredibly satisfying, and luckily, I eventually got to see Taylor Swift live.
