Q1. Thank you for agreeing to participate. I’d like to ask you some questions about your food and nutrition habits. First, do you follow any specific diet or eating plan?

Version 1 (Faithful & Natural)

“Yes, I do. I generally follow a high-protein diet. I eat quite a lot of chicken, beef, and lean pork because I exercise regularly, so I feel like I need the extra protein to build muscle and recover.

As for my eating habits, I usually have three meals a day, but breakfast is probably my biggest meal. I tend to eat more in the morning because it helps me stay focused and gives me enough energy for work. I usually have a lot to get done in the morning, so having a good breakfast is a great way to start my day.”

Version 1

Version 2 (TOEFL Interview Optimized)

“Yes. I don’t follow a strict named diet, but I do try to keep my meals high in protein. I eat a lot of chicken, beef, and lean pork because I work out regularly, and protein helps me recover and maintain muscle.

I also eat three meals a day, with breakfast usually being the largest. I tend to eat more in the morning because that’s when I need the most energy and concentration for work. So overall, my eating plan is pretty simple: plenty of protein, regular meals, and a substantial breakfast to help me start the day feeling focused and energized.”

Q2. Thank you. Can you describe some foods that you eat on a regular basis?

Version 1 (Faithful & Natural)

“Well, one dish I eat almost every day is a kind of salad. I don’t remember exactly what it’s called, but it has different vegetables, a little bit of cheese, and some dressing. It’s tasty and crunchy, and it also gives me a lot of vitamins.

Another thing I have regularly is kefir, which I usually drink every night. It’s a kind of slightly fizzy, fermented milk drink. It’s a little like yogurt, but it’s more liquid and has a slightly fizzy taste.”

Version 2 (TOEFL Interview Optimized)

“Two things come to mind. First, I eat a mixed salad almost every day. It usually has several kinds of vegetables, a little cheese, and some dressing. I like it because it’s fresh and crunchy, and it’s an easy way for me to include more vegetables in my diet.

I also drink kefir most evenings. It’s a fermented milk drink that’s a little like drinkable yogurt, but it’s thinner, tangier, and slightly fizzy. I really enjoy the taste, so it has become part of my regular evening routine.”

Q3. Interesting. Tell me about a time when you or someone you know made a significant change to their diet. What was the change, and what motivated you or the person you know to make it?

先明确时间:last year
然后说两个具体改变:cut down on carbs,同时 eat more protein

Version 1 (Faithful & Natural)

“Well, last year I started to cut down on my carb intake, especially foods like rice, bread, and noodles. At the same time, I started to eat more protein, such as pork, chicken, and beef. It really helped me lose weight while building muscle.

I first made this change because I was inspired by a TED Talk by a very famous athlete. He talked about how you can build muscle and get stronger without increasing your body fat percentage too much. That really motivated me, and that’s how I started making this change to my diet.”

Version 2 (TOEFL Interview Optimized)

“Last year, I made a pretty significant change to the way I ate. I cut back on foods that were high in carbohydrates, especially large portions of rice, bread, and noodles, and I added more protein from foods like chicken, beef, and pork. I didn’t eliminate carbs completely; I just tried to make the balance of my meals different. Over time, that helped me reduce body fat while still building muscle.

What motivated me was a TED Talk by a well-known athlete. He explained how training and diet can work together to help you become stronger without gaining too much body fat. I found that idea practical and motivating, so I decided to try a similar approach myself.”

Q4. Great. Some people say they have difficulty maintaining a healthy diet because they do not like the taste of healthier foods. What do you think about that argument? Why?

最后最好不要把观点说得太绝对,可以补一句:healthy food does not have to taste bad,健康饮食也可以通过烹饪和调味变得好吃。

Version 1 (Faithful & Natural)

“Well, I totally agree with that argument. People often choose certain foods because of their flavor and because of how tasty they are. That’s actually why a lot of drinks and snacks come in different flavors, like cherry, fruit, or barbecue. Companies know that taste can really influence what people choose to eat.

The problem is that choosing food mainly based on flavor can be unhealthy, especially for kids, who may have less self-control and whose decision-making skills are still developing. They may be more likely to choose unhealthy foods simply because those foods taste better. So if someone thinks healthy food tastes bland, I can understand why it may be difficult for them to maintain a healthy diet.”

Version 1

Version 2 (TOEFL Interview Optimized)

“Yes, I think there’s some truth to that argument because taste is one of the biggest factors in food choice. If someone thinks healthy food is bland but finds salty, sugary, or highly flavored food much more enjoyable, it’s naturally going to be harder for them to stick to a healthy diet over time.

This can be even more noticeable with children because they may focus more on immediate taste than long-term health. That said, I don’t think healthy food has to taste bad. People can change how they cook or season it and still make it enjoyable. So I agree that taste can be a real challenge, but I see it as something that can be managed rather than a reason to give up on healthy eating.”
