Q1. Think of a time, recent or not, when you had something you wanted to achieve. What was it?

I wanted to improve myself.

Version 1 (Natural & Smooth)

“One goal I had recently was to build a small app that could transcribe my students’ English recordings. I wanted to make it because I teach speaking, and I thought it would help students review their answers more clearly.

I spent a lot of time thinking about the layout and then built it step by step. By the end of last week, I had the first working version. It was not perfect yet, but it could already do the basic job, so I felt quite proud of it.”

Version 2 (More Natural & Spoken)

“Recently, I wanted to build a small app for my speaking class. The app could turn students’ English recordings into text, so they could listen back and check their answers more easily.

I didn’t finish everything at once. I first thought about the layout, then built and tested the app little by little. By the end of the week, I had a working version. It still needed improvement, but at least the basic function worked.”

Q2. In general, how do you handle difficulties or obstacles that come up while working toward what you want to achieve?

第一步要先明确说出自己的方法,比如 break the problem into smaller steps。

Version 1 (Natural & Smooth)

“In general, when I face a difficulty, I try to break it down into smaller steps. If I look at the whole problem at once, it can feel overwhelming, but if I divide it into smaller parts, it becomes easier to handle.

For example, when I’m working on a project, I don’t try to fix everything at the same time. I first find out what the main problem is, then I solve one part, test it, and move on to the next part.”

Version 1

Version 2 (More Natural & Spoken)

“When I run into a problem, I usually don’t try to solve everything at once. I try to slow down and break the problem into smaller parts.

For example, if I’m working on a project and something goes wrong, I first ask myself what the real problem is. Then I fix one small part, test it, and see if it works. This makes the whole thing feel less stressful and more manageable.”

Q3. In your opinion, how important is goal setting for personal growth?

Version 1 (Natural & Smooth)

“Personally, I think goal setting is very important for personal growth, because it gives people a clear direction. Without a goal, we may want to improve, but we don’t really know where to start.

For example, if I want to learn a new course, I need to know which parts to focus on and how much time I can spend on it. Once I have a clear plan, it becomes much easier to take action.”

Version 1

Version 2 (More Natural & Spoken)

“I think goal setting matters a lot because it gives people something clear to work toward. Without a goal, we may say we want to get better, but that idea is still too vague.

For example, if I want to study a new subject, I need to know what to learn first and how much time to spend on it. A clear goal makes it easier to start and keep going.”

Q4. Do you think children should be taught to set goals at an early age?

Version 1 (Natural & Smooth)

“Yes, I think it’s a good idea to teach children to set goals at an early age, as long as the goals are simple and suitable for their age. They don’t need big life goals, but they can start with small things, like reading for ten minutes every day, finishing homework on time, or learning a new skill little by little.

Habits take time to build. If children get used to setting small goals, they may become more organized and independent later in life.”

Version 1

Version 2 (More Natural & Spoken)

“Yes, I think children should learn to set goals, but the goals should be small and realistic. Young children don’t need to think about big life plans. They can start with simple goals, like reading every day, finishing their homework, or practicing a skill.

I think this is useful because goal setting is also a habit. If children learn it early, they may become more responsible and better at managing themselves as they grow older.”
