Q1 · TOOLS + TECHNIQUES

Thank you for agreeing to participate. I'd like to ask you some questions about your time management habits. First, do you use any tools or techniques to manage your time effectively? Please give some examples.
ToolTechniqueExampleBenefit

Apple Calendar → note upcoming commitments → rank by urgency and importance → avoid missing deadlines

Calendar →

events → reminders → fewer forgotten commitments

I add deadlines and family appointments to my calendar so nothing slips my mind.

Sample Answer

Yes, I do. I use Apple Calendar to keep track of important events and deadlines, so I don't forget what's coming up. I also prioritize my tasks based on how urgent and important they are. For example, if I have a work deadline and a family appointment on the same day, I put both on my calendar and make sure I deal with the more urgent task first. This helps me stay organized and makes my daily routine a lot easier to manage.

Core Vocabulary & Chunks

  • what's coming up — 接下来有什么安排
  • based on urgency and importance — 按照紧急性和重要性
  • deal with the more urgent task — 先处理更紧急的任务

Q2 · ROUTINE + STRATEGY

Thank you. Can you describe a typical day's events for you and how you organize your time?
RoutineStrategyResult

Morning (routine) → Workday (tasks + priorities) → Evening (family + benefit)

10sMorning
25sWorkday + Strategy
10sEvening
Workday →

teach / plan lessons → check calendar → prioritize urgent tasks

I teach AP Computer Science and ESL, and I check my calendar to deal with urgent tasks first.

Sample Answer

On a typical weekday, I get up at around six thirty and leave for work around eight. During the day, I teach classes, from AP Computer Science to ESL, and I also handle paperwork and lesson planning. To stay organized, I check my calendar and deal with the most urgent or important tasks first. I usually finish work around five. In the evening, I watch movies with my wife or play games with my kids. Planning ahead helps me get things done at work and enjoy more family time afterward.

Core Vocabulary & Chunks

  • on a typical weekday — 在一个普通工作日
  • leave for work — 出门上班
  • check my calendar — 查看日历
  • deal with ... first — 优先处理……
  • finish work around five — 大约五点下班
  • enjoy more family time — 有更多时间陪伴家人

Q3 · PAST CHALLENGE

Interesting. Tell me about a time when you had to manage multiple tasks or responsibilities at once. How did you handle it?
SituationActionResult

最后承认 “It wasn't an ideal solution, but it worked.”

work deadline + childcare → competing demands → short-term solution → work completed
题干的 “Tell me about a time” 明确要求一段过去的具体经历。

Situation → Action → Result

Work + Kids →

deadline + children → create a short quiet window → finish urgent work

I put on a video for my kids and used that quiet time to finish the urgent part of my work.

Sample Answer

There was one time when I had an important deadline at work, but I also needed to take care of my kids at home. It was difficult because I had to concentrate on my computer while they kept asking for my attention. So I put on a video for them and used that quiet time to get my work done. It wasn't an ideal solution, since I don't want them watching too much TV, but it worked in that situation. I managed to finish my work while still looking after my kids.

Core Vocabulary & Chunks

  • have an important deadline — 有一个重要截止日期
  • take care of my kids — 照看孩子
  • concentrate on my work — 专心工作
  • keep asking for my attention — 不断需要我的关注
  • put on a video — 播放一段视频
  • use that quiet time to...
  • get my work done — 把工作完成
  • It wasn't an ideal solution, but it worked —

Q4 · OPINION + BALANCE

Question 4:

Great. Some people believe that managing your time wisely can lead to higher productivity, while others think it can cause unnecessary stress and prefer a looser schedule. What is your opinion on this and why?
PositionReasonConcessionConclusion

good planning → finish important tasks → less last-minute rushing → more control
常见问题:别用 “Even though ..., but ...” 用 Even though ... , ... 或 ..., but ...

Good Planning →

clear plan → fewer missed deadlines → less last-minute stress

Managing time wisely helps me meet deadlines and avoid rushing at the last minute.

Sample Answer

I think managing your time wisely is essential, especially in today's world. Most of us have a lot of responsibilities, whether it's meeting deadlines at work, studying for exams, or taking care of our families. Without a clear plan, we can end up rushing to finish things at the last minute, which can be even more stressful. Of course, an overly strict schedule can also put pressure on people, so I think some flexibility is important. But overall, good time management helps us get things done and leaves more time for the things we care about.

Core Vocabulary & Chunks

  • manage your time wisely — 合理管理时间
  • have a lot of responsibilities — 肩负许多责任
  • at the last minute — 在最后关头
  • some flexibility is important — 保留灵活性很重要

1Tools + TechniquesTool → Technique → Example → Benefit
2Routine + StrategyRoutine → Strategy → Result
3Past ChallengeSituation → Action → Result
4Opinion + BalancePosition → Reason → Concession → Conclusion
