Well, one place that immediately springs to mind is a friend's home at the foot of Mount Qingcheng, about a two-hour drive from downtown Chengdu. He's turned part of it into a restaurant, so it's an unusual combination of a private residence and a place to eat.

I visited last month and was genuinely blown away by the surroundings. As soon as I arrived, I spotted a lush vegetable garden where he grows a wide variety of produce, much of which ends up on the restaurant's menu. It doesn't get much fresher than that!

The whole property has an almost idyllic atmosphere. There are rabbits in their enclosures, swings in the courtyard, and flowers and greenery everywhere. It's the perfect spot to unwind and escape the hustle and bustle of city life. And the food was absolutely phenomenal, especially knowing some of the ingredients had been grown just a few steps away.

After lunch, I just sat in the courtyard for a while, enjoying the fresh air and wondering why city life always seems to move so fast.

Having said that, I couldn't imagine settling down there. Its remote location would make everyday errands and commuting a major hassle. On top of that, the internet is painfully slow, so I'd feel cut off from the outside world.
